Ten years ago, MOGA started with a simple question: could electronic music find a home in Essaouira?
In 2016, the idea was ambitious. Electronic music festivals were still emerging in Morocco, and creating a new kind of cultural experience meant building trust, creating partnerships, and proving that something different could exist.
But Essaouira was always the right place for this story.
A city shaped by exchange, creativity, and movement for centuries, where sounds, cultures, and influences have always crossed paths. Its openness and artistic spirit became part of MOGA’s identity from the very beginning.
MOGA was never only about bringing artists to a stage. It was about creating a space where electronic music could meet local culture, where people from different backgrounds could share the same moment, and where a festival could become a journey.
Over the years, MOGA became one of Morocco’s key electronic music gatherings, bringing thousands of local and international festival-goers to Essaouira and contributing to the city’s cultural energy.
In 2021, MOGA opened a new chapter by expanding to Portugal, becoming one of the first Moroccan-born festivals to grow internationally while carrying its identity beyond borders.
The journey also had its challenges. In 2023, after the earthquake that affected Morocco, MOGA Essaouira was cancelled. But the community, artists, and partners that had grown around the festival remained connected.
Ten years later, MOGA continues to evolve across destinations while staying true to the same idea: creating moments where music, place, and people come together.
A festival born in Essaouira, carried by a community, and always moving forward.
